Why Jute Threads?

​The biggest project you will ever manage is your own life.

The vast majority of project management is done by regular people in their day-to-day lives.

So why are almost all project management apps written for businesses, or are teeth-grindingly, hair-pullingly, eye-gougingly miserable to use?
Well, we don’t know. 

But we’re fixing it.

What motivates us?

Regular people do stuff, too.

And sometimes we collaborate with other people doing stuff.
Together we manage families, households, our day jobs, our health, school, hobbies, our cars and bus passes, and the never-ending piles of documents that come with them.
We run small businesses, make art, travel, play in bands, attend reunions, volunteer, try DIY projects, exercise, write stories, cook, organize elderly care and childcare.
You might want to sit down for this, but all of that stuff? That’s project management.

We were an afterthought… Until now

​Decent project management apps have mostly been for lucrative business managers and owners.
For the rest of the people of Earth, options haven’t been great. (See ‘teeth grinding,’ etc.)

So, an option that most of us use is… nothing.
Which means we take the absolutely psychotic route of managing projects with about 12 different apps at any given time.
There just hasn’t been another good way to meet our messaging, scheduling, photo sharing, emailing, spreadsheet-ing (shush), note-taking, contact managing, file-sharing, and list-making needs.
It makes our stuff (and brains) scattered to the wind, leaving us longingly wondering when our organization skills will return from the war.
To avoid fracturing our brains like a three-month-old cell phone screen, some of us take the other option:
Subscribing to an existing project management app.
We’re going to go zen for a moment and admit that these apps have sincerely come a long way, and that they have their place- we even use them.

… However, they’re also expensive, extremely complex, and they will be receiving our dental bills in the mail. Even if you are willing to shell out $100 Earth dollars or so per month (no joke) for one of these services, you may as well just learn to code for all the effort you’ll then put in to figuring them out.

How many of you have ever felt personally insulted by organization apps? Raise your hands. (Ours are already up.)

What an untangled web we weave...

​Got a hundred separate documents? Well, that’s called a pile.
Don’t get us wrong, we love piles, but tragically we are not raccoons and cannot thrive in them.
However, a hundred connected documents isn’t just a pile; it’s a knowledge base.
Jute uses links, @’s, and tags to connect documents and pages.
So, if you’re writing one page and mention another one, Jute will connect the two, so you can swap back and forth.
(Seems like a no-brainer, right? Well, Jute is one of the only organization tools to do it.)
And as you write, Jute will look for similar things you’ve already written, and it will show them to you so that you can avoid duplicates.
We won’t ask you how many ghosts of the same list you have in your notes apps. We wouldn’t shame you like that. We just want you to know that Jute is here for you.
Now we can dig through our knowledge base with our little raccoon hands, and actually get somewhere.



Stop flying blind

What if you get into a fender bender? You’ll take photos of the damage, and you’ll exchange info with the other driver.
You’ll deal with police, insurance companies, and repair shops. You’ll notify your family and manage your budget.
Jute Threads connects all of it.
When you search for you car, you’ll see your relevant pages: insurance information, service history, registration, and so on.
So when you’re dealing with one part, you can more clearly see the whole.
You won’t be caught without an important piece of paperwork and have to ask yourself, on the spot,
“Was that in an email? Which email account? On a Cloud? Or was it a text? Maybe a shared photo?” before simply crawling into the nearest recycling bin.
Finally, your knowledge base will show up for you when you need it most.
It’s like being able to use your whole brain at once.



Seeing is relaxing

The more you see your stuff, the better you’ll remember it, and the more you’ll remember how you organized it.
The apps we’ve tried in our dark and stormy past have put a lot of faith in our ability to remember a mental map of our stuff,
even while constantly hiding it from us.
In Jute Threads, you can see your folder structure. It’s not in the way, you can simplify or expand it, but you can always see it.
We’ve obsessed over the best way to show you what you need- without the noise, but with enough information that you can relax.
The human brain likes seeing where it’s stuff is- which is great for people with ADHD, and it turns, out it’s great for everyone else, too!



Don’t re-invent the rainbow wheel

When you’re trying to organize something, have you ever had that feeling that someone else must have figured this out already?
Well, they probably have! We do live in a whole society.
So we’ve made it simple.
Want to manage a trip? Just grab the trip template. Want to manage a project at work? A team, a band, a wedding, or a medical issue?
You get the idea.
In Threads, templates are no longer these mysterious creatures that live in another universe or some other portal.
Here, a template is a page like any other, that you can drag anywhere you like and edit to meet your needs.
A template can be as simple as a pre-formatted document to save the warranty information for your microwave; or it can be a whole folder structure with documents, to-do lists, and calendars to manage your business.
Threads has a Community Templates section, where you can find, preview and collect templates. When you find what you need, just drag it anywhere in your threads.
It’s that easy- and they’re totally free. Boom.

We made templates as easy as possible, because the less you have to re-invent, the more progress you make.

Organization isn’t a chore. It’s connection.

At Jute, we are uniquely dedicated to making managing your life suck less.
That’s because we (desperately) needed to make managing our lives suck less.
Some people have ADHD. Some people do a team’s worth of work by themselves.
